Hi all, I had a bit of a rollercoaster getting to where I am in my career today. I won’t get into all of it, but essentially I had to work my ass off to get out of a nightmare career, go back to school, spend years in a post grad development program, to finally reach the dream job I thought I had been chasing the whole time. And now that I’m in it, I kind of hate it and wondering if I made a big mistake. I loved my career/company up until I started this new position a couple of months ago. I knew it would be demanding as it was a fast paced team and our massive company was changing significantly at the same time, but it’s been absolute chaos. Nothing is certain in this role and I’m isolated from my new team, being based out of a completely different office in a different state. I have to travel at the drop of a hat (literally 2 days or less notice) because the scheduling is such a mess, and I don’t have access to any of the necessary systems I need to do my job because my new team is a part of a company my original company acquired and we’re using their systems during the transition. Except apparently no one planned ahead for integrating those systems and I keep getting told I’ll have to wait. All of this makes me feel completely overwhelmed and drowning, like I’m entirely useless. I know I’m still onboarding but it seems like most people either have their shit together or are one foot out the door."

I am basically invisible at work.
Been at the same place for last 6 years. At around 3year mark there was a misunderstanding and that conveniently made me look like a fool who doesn’t know what they’re doing. The person whose opinion was taken to check the validity of claims, knew nothing about that work but they said the work would take one hour to do when it actually was going to take 2 days, and no one questioned the person because of his reputation and seniority. I was put to blame as if i didn’t know anything, lead didn’t say a peep and left the company 3 months later.
Instead of doing the same and leaving , like a fool, I continued and tried to set things right, worked hard, got screwed over for promotion by the delivery manager. Then went on Mat leave for 10 months. Came back to people thinking i don’t know the job i have been doing for more than 9 years.
Swallowed it like a bitter pill as i had to stay with the company because of some constraints associated with maternity benefits.
Been working hard since then trying to set things right. Been 2 years since i came back from Mat leave and now was trying to get promoted again, taking up extra responsibilities, helping out others, organizing work socials, working on team engagement. Only to find out today that my director is recognizing and promoting (not as job promotion but appreciating and promoting in eyes of rest of the org) another person who basically just helped me with suggestions on restaurants for team outing. The director says this person drives the social engagement initiatives and helps build community, whereas i was the one who did all of that!!"
