AUGUST JOBS STRENGTH MAY HAVE BEEN OVERSTATED August payroll growth of 162K was boosted by unusually favorable seasonal adjustments. On an unadjusted basis, the economy added just 154K jobs, near 2025 levels. Using last year’s seasonal factor, August payroll growth would have

The image contains two charts: the left shows the BLS nonfarm payroll (NFP) seasonal factors for August and September from 1990 to 2026, highlighting a recent "smaller drag on SA level of payrolls" in August, and the right displays actual September nonfarm payrolls growth (in thousands, non-seasonally adjusted) from 2000 to 2024. Both charts support the post's argument that August 2025 jobs growth was overstated due to favorable seasonal adjustments, with the actual unadjusted job gains of 154K aligning with recent trends rather than indicating true labor market strength.

DUN DUN DUN -- Fox Business on the September jobs report: "The numbers do not look good. I'm looking at 29,000 jobs added. That is well below expectations for 90,000, and our unemployment rate jumps up to 4.2%. A significant slowdown."

Not only were the 29K jobs created in Sept. below expectations, but as I predicted last month, July and Aug. were revised down by 31K and 29K respectively. My guess is that all three months will ultimately be revised even lower. We have a weak labor market with strong inflation.

US UNEMPLOYMENT JUST CAME IN AT 4.2%. HIGHER THAN EXPECTED. THE FED JUST LOST ITS EXCUSE TO HIKE. BEARS, IT'S OVER.

Labor market faltered in September as jobs increased by just 29,000, unemployment rate rose to 4.2% The U.S. economy created far fewer jobs than expected in September, pointing to a surprising soft spot in the labor market and broader economy. Nonfarm payrolls rose a seasonally adjusted 29,000 for the month while the unemployment rate increased to 4.2%, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for job growth of 84,000 and an unemployment rate of 4.1%. In addition to the weakness in September, the August jobs count was revised lower to reflect a gain of 133,000 while July switched from a gain to a loss as payrolls fell by 10,000. The revisions in total showed 60,000 fewer jobs than previously reported.

What "overcapacity" are they even talking about! It's just an excuse from European automakers because they can't compete with Chinese quality!

The September jobs report quietly turned July negative Everyone's looking at the 29K miss today, but the revisions are worse. July went from +21K to -10K. August lost another 29K. So the last three months average about 50K a month. That's basically flat. And the Fed hiked last month with the 30 year sitting above 5.5%. I don't see how they hike again in October on numbers like this, but inflation hasn't exactly cooperated either. What am I missing?

Inflation is the silent killer

Seems like the job market is practicing its limbo skills. But every dip can lead to a healthier bounce back.
