I ended up getting pregnant about a month into us dealing with each other, but I didn’t know until recently. Before I even knew I was pregnant, I was already trying to leave him alone because I knew the situation wasn’t good for me. Whenever we were together, it felt like he wanted to spend the least amount of time with me possible. We didn’t really go on dates, barely talked on the phone, and there wasn’t much affection or quality time. He would give me money, we’d have sex, and that was basically it. Eventually I started looking at it like, well, if this is all you want from me then you need to pay me, because I wasn’t getting anything else out of this. The problem is I was still emotionally attached to him, even though I knew I needed to let him go. Now I’m pregnant and everything feels 10x worse. He has kids already and he married both of their mothers. But with me, he clearly doesn’t want me to keep the baby. He doesn’t outright say “get an abortion,” but he keeps telling me to “be realistic” and reminding me how hard it would be, his schedule, him leaving, etc. It feels like constant pressure without him technically telling me what to do. And that pisses me off because I WAS being realistic. I was on birth control. I wasn’t trying to get pregnant. We both made this baby, but I’m the one who has to physically and emotionally deal with what happens now. I have an abortion scheduled, and logically I know having a baby with him probably isn’t a good idea. This man barely wanted to spend time with me before I was pregnant. Why would I expect pregnancy or a baby to magically make him treat me better? But emotionally, I’m still really sad. I had an ultrasound and seeing it made everything real. And now I keep having this stupid thought of, why were those women good enough to marry and have his children, but I’m the one being told to “be realistic”? I know marriage doesn’t mean he treated them well. I don’t even know what their relationships were like. And I know it sounds crazy to want to be “chosen” by someone who hasn’t even treated me well. But I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hurt. I think I’m grieving the pregnancy, but also the rejection and the fact that I got attached to someone who gave me so little. Has anyone else been through something like this? Especially getting pregnant by someone you already knew wasn’t good for you, but still feeling hurt that they didn’t want you or the pregnancy? If you had an abortion, did those feelings eventually get better once you were away from him?
