The 30Y Treasury ETF is down over 5% in the past month, with nearly 3% of that coming in just the last week. That kind of movement in duration means people are not slowly repositioning, they are getting out. If PCE comes in hot today and the September jobs number lands above the 84,000 consensus, the case for another hike basically writes itself. Prediction markets already have it near 50-50 that payrolls clear six figures. Two confirming prints in quick succession would pressure anyone still holding long duration to fold. The risk to the short duration trade is a soft PCE that gives the Fed cover to pause, but that would need to be a meaningful miss to move the needle given where yields already are. If you're positioned the other way, what does the PCE number actually need to show to justify holding that through the payroll release next week?"
