Let me try to explain strategy's situation as simply as i can because i think a lot of people see the headlines without understanding the mechanics.
Strategy holds 845,050 BTC. at current prices that's roughly $66B worth of bitcoin. but MSTR's market cap is only about $54B. that's an mNAV of 0.81, meaning you can buy $1 worth of bitcoin for $0.81 by buying the stock. sounds like free money right?
The reason the market is discounting it: strategy has to keep the machine running. they issue new MSTR shares to raise cash. some of that cash buys BTC. but a chunk of it goes to paying 11.5% annual yield on their STRC preferred stock, plus dividends, plus share buybacks. if BTC doesn't go up, or goes down, the math starts to break."
