I was driving my partners vehicle a few weeks ago and was rear ended (what felt like a tap) at a traffic light. Although it felt minor, I was immediately overcome with PTSD from a previous accident. In the moment I was filled with anxiety and shaken up, no matter the severity, I felt guilt bc it wasn’t my car. We pulled over, other driver was a male early 30s who apologized, blaming his broken foot. As he looked at his vehicle and exclaimed there were no damages and asked how mine looked, I was relieved the bumper was intact and there were no dents. The vehicle is 20+ years old, so normal paint chips and scratches already exist, although there was a minor scratch I was unsure of. When I said this, the other driver was adamant he pay me right there and do not get law enforcement involved. I felt intimidated, tripping over words and didn’t know how to respond, I was just happy the accident wasn’t worse, so I accepted his cash offer. I was shaking so bad while I put my Venmo name into his phone. As we stood there talking, I received an alert that a payment was received without looking at the amount. I just wanted to get out of the road and move along as fast as possible, as I had other appointments to get to that day. In the moment it felt like nothing, again relieved it wasn’t worse. So no, I did not exchange info with him nor did I not get his insurance. The only thing I have is his name from the Venmo. Well, it turns out he only sent me $1 and to top it off, the bumper wassss bent (not super noticeable) and the estimate is $500 for an adjustment. I have never been in a minor accident like this. I understand now this was a mistake and I will collect all information regardless of how severe it is if this ever were to happen again."
