So the first time I needed to create a betting market, I made an account for every event and inside that event it had a list or vector and rust of every outcome for that event every win-lose draw or different candidates in the election or whatever it is, the different outcomes for the event you were building on. This is Solana where space is limited and also where if you have a lot of outcomes you might run out of space pretty quickly So there's actually a simple way of doing that Which is just to maintain a count of the amount of outcomes in the event and then for the seeds of every different outcome You have zero one two and just say hey There's three outcomes in the event and you don't need to store addresses You just store the count of outcomes that's more efficient way of storing a list of things that may grow quite large over time What about a list of things that needs to change really frequently if you have an order book based exchange? You have a list of standing orders waiting to be filled and that list should be sorted and it's gonna change throughout the trading day Very very frequently so a vector at that point becomes really slow because every time you need to insert a new item You're moving the other items down the vector and it's just a hassle So the most efficient way to store a sorted ever-changing list is via a sorted tree So in the example of the order book I made recently used a critical bit tree All that does is take the binary representation of the values and then make a fork in the tree wherever they differ So whenever there's a zero or a one and that's the left and right sides of the fork And that is a super common pattern for order book based exchanges a fourth and final way to handle a list of things is commonly used for allow lists and That's simply to check if an account exists or not if it exists It's included in the allow list and if it doesn't then it's not allowed I've recently been working on a vault strategy and this particular vault strategy has someone who's allowed to manage the list of acceptable assets Rather than maintain that as a real list you simply create the account and if it exists it's allowed That's four different ways to store lists of data in Solana I hope that's useful follow wherever you're watching this and I'll see you in the next video"
