[Spoken audio]: Before Bitcoin, did you see the problem with money? I honestly didn't. I really didn't. I could see that money printing without being tethered to something was a problem. Absolutely. I remember seeing that at the time of the global economic crisis in 2008, but somehow I didn't connect the dots and didn't see Bitcoin as a solution to it. a solution to it. I was still thinking, okay, go back currency, something of that nature. But the notion of completely replacing the dollar with something which was fundamentally sound rather than just improving or propping up the dollar, that was outside my paradigm at the time to be honest. And that was the first issue. The second issue was I saw inflation and I saw that could be problematic. But in my mind, I hadn't seen how pervasive it was. And I would explain it away by saying, well, sure prices are going up, but wages is going up as well. And it's kind of sometimes a little bit more, sometimes a little bit less, but it comes out on balance. I didn't realize that it does not balance up at all. And that there is a net erosion of purchasing power that has been occurring by stealth over a 50 year plus period that has resulted in and making it harder for average middle class and working class people around the world to make ends meet and has totally changed the fabric of society. That I didn't see. So that was the second issue. And then the third issue was as someone who'd been a technology entrepreneur, it just seemed a little bit abstract to me. It's like, well, how is fixing a monetary system going to do anything productive? It's just money after all. It's not a product. It's not like software that can, of course, Bitcoin is software, but it's not as if it's something that people can use and get value of. So it didn't fit my paradigm of how people would traditionally use software. So for that reason, when I'm talking and explaining Bitcoin to other people, I'm very empathetic for other people who just don't see why it's important, what the problem is it solves, or how it can be valuable, because I had those same perceptions as well. And it was really only because I saw its value in solving energy problems that then I ended up accidentally, again, there's that word, going to conferences, talking to other Bitcoiners and getting to find out the money story and going, ah, this actually really does solve a problem. This is not a small problem. This is a huge problem. It's a real problem. It is the biggest problem in the world terms of wealth inequality, bar none, it is a problem that unless addressed anything that the political left or right or centre will do will be inconsequential because it's not addressing root cause. But it took me a while to get to that. It wasn't something that hit me between the knee and eyes straight away."
