Coinbase has zero idea what I originally paid for that BTC. All it sees is coins showing up in my account and coins leaving. So the form just reports the full sale amount like my cost basis was $0. I already knew wallet transfers themselves aren't taxable, that part I had down. What I didn't realize is that the transfer is exactly why the form ends up wrong later.
